What’s going on in our Judaics Class?

We wanted to give you a little taste of some of the ways we are learning together.

While learning Parashat Chayei Sarah we read, discuss and try to decipher the language of the Torah. To understand it better we  worked in teams to match sentences in Hebrew THEN and NOW.  We looked for hints, word roots, and familiar words to help us. It was not easy, but with the help of each other, all teams managed to do it.  Here we are at work and a photo of the solution:

We also had the Shinshinim take us back in time from the first days of the state of Israel to today, to learn about Israeli music through fun activities.

…and when the boys were in a soccer tournament, the girls were given a ‘floor but no ceiling’ situation where they had to present their newly acquired vocabulary  about “זהירות בכביש” (Road Safety) in a format of their choice. They began by dividing themselves into 3 groups taking into consideration each other’s strength and came up with creative ideas to demonstrate their learning. One group wrote and created a movie, where two of the girls acted and the other two did the speaking. Another group made a detailed puppet show set and used the original story in their presentation, and the third group, wrote and presented a skit. It was inspiring to observe them working out the hurdles of being part of a team.

Here is an example of a first run of the skit…

Now… before performing it to other classes we can look at the movie and see what we can do different to improve the next take…  and have fun while doing it. 😉
